Early Play

A child's intelligence is 85% formed for life under the age of 5. Now, some experts will say 8, but they all agree that these early years are vitally important ones for growth and learning. Don't under-estimate the amount of learning that a small baby does, after all they learn an entire language at this time. In these early years, we should provide a variety of toys for our babies, who need things to look at, things to grasp, things to make a noise, things to feel. Always remember that as parents, we are our children's first and best teachers.

Puzzles

Jigsaw puzzles are important. Not only for the development of eye and hand coordination, but because the recognition of shapes and colours in early play leads later on to the easier recognition of the shapes of numbers and letters.

It is most important to realise that children learn by repetition. They love to do Jigsaws over and over again, virtually saying to themselves and to you 'Look what I can do!', 'Look how clever I am!'

We all learn from our successes - they give us confidence to try something else.
So from the simple 6-piece Jigsaws, children will progress to more complicated ones. Parents can use the subject of a Jigsaw as the basis for a story - discuss size, comparison in pieces 'is the red piece bigger than the green one?’ etc. Talk about colour - 'Look at the yellow door', etc.

Laser Cut Puzzles

Children’s curiosity knows no bounds. As a child develops greater thinking skills, they love and are fascinated with the challenge of more complicated and intriguing puzzles. Adults will also find some of these products fascinating and children will develop social skills as they share the fun of playing with them.

The computer controlled precision laser cutting used to produce our wooden puzzles ensures products of the highest quality. They also reduce the frustration of incorrect fitting pieces.

The knobs on some of the puzzles such as First Shape Puzzle, Alphabet Board and the Number Puzzle make it easy for children to grasp the pieces developing the Pincer Grip.

Name Puzzles

Learning to discover your own name is an important part of growing up. Children will love a multi-coloured, laser cut, wooden puzzle of their own name. Name Puzzles are made to order for names from 3 to 12 letters.

Fun & Fascination

At Jigsaw, we believe that children learn best when they are having fun, they learn while playing. At a very early age they have fun, imitating what Mum and Dad do, as they play-act life situations. The right toys can help to develop their imagination and encourage this important aspect of learning through play.

'Child's play is not just a method of passing the time - but a necessary preparation for adult life.'

Creative Play

Art is the language of feelings; it can be used to draw off tensions and to express whether we are happy or sad.
Young children can express their feelings and let off steam through such activities as scribbling and finger painting, even before they learn to speak properly.

We can encourage creative play in our children, so essential to healthy growth, by providing a variety of creative materials for them to explore and use.
Jigsaw has a wide range of exciting art materials.

Games

Games help children to develop in many different ways. Through games children learn how to relate to other people, how to communicate.

They learn how to think quickly, make decisions, and recognise colours, shapes and numbers. Playing games increases their ability to concentrate and helps them to develop powers of observation and memory. At some time in our lives we all need to succeed and winning a game might be the first experience a child has of what it is like to feel successful.
Jigsaw has a wonderful range of educational games that are fun for all the family.

Posters and Cards

To complement our best selling puzzles we have a range in poster form to provide lots of exciting things to discover and talk about.

Our gift cards are wonderfully illustrated for that special occasion.

Books

It is never too soon to introduce our children to the wonderful world of books.

The quiet time spent reading stories to our children before they go to sleep will be some of the most treasured moments we will ever share with them. The first stories our children will learn to read will of course of necessity, be simple and elementary, so reading practice may become a bore. So even after our children can read for themselves, it can be important for us to keep reading aloud a variety of stories to keep alive their excitement and enthusiasm for books.

Activities

Recognising letters, colours, numbers and shapes are essential preschool skills. Jigsaw has a range of activity books and products that will keep your family entertained for hours.

Gift Packs

Our Gift Packs contain a selection of products in a colourful Carry Pack that makes giving and receiving a joy.
